Documentary Audience Reflection

#5 Super Size Me- https://www.smore.com/ctw6y-super-size-me

Size Me is a documentary about the effects of fast food. A man named Morgan Spurlock conducts an experiment in where he consumes McDonald’s for 30 days straight and the effects are horrible. I would recommend this documentary because everyone has or is still eating fast food and no one ever seems to even think about the effects it can have on your body.

#4 BlackFish- https://www.smore.com/4bxha

BlackFish is different from regular animal documentaries most zoo animal’s or trained animals are usually viewed as sweet, cute and caring not deadly and dangerous towards humans. That is why it seemed interesting to see something that is not normally seen in society.

#3 CitizenFour- https://www.smore.com/jcpqg-citizenfour

It’s about Laura Poitras receiving encrypted emails from someone with information on the government’s massive covert-surveillance programs. I recommend that everyone watches this because it shows how the government is spying on Americans.

#2 Into the Abyss- https://www.smore.com/28kf7-into-the-abyss

Into the Abyss is about exploring capital punishment and convicted killers, their victims’ families, and members of the Texas criminal justice system. and I found this documentary interesting because it kinda relates to making a murderer.

#1 Chasing Ice- https://www.smore.com/w3grm

Chasing Ice is about the efforts of nature photographer James Balog and his Extreme Ice Survey (EIS) to publicize the effects of climate change. I recommended this documentary because gives awareness and shows actual proof of whats happening to our environment.

Black History Month

Image result for emmett till

Emmett Louis Till was a 14-year-old African American boy who lived with his parent’s in Chicago IL, traveled to Mississippi to see family but was badly tortured and killed by racists whites because a white woman said that Emmett offended her by whistling. The men that tortured and killed Emmett Till were acquitted of his death. Emmett Till was kidnapped beaten and shot in the head afterward they through his body in the Tallahatchie River. Once Emmett’s body was found they sent him back to Chicago to have a public service funeral and open casket to show what those men did to him was an injustice act. Emmett Till even though passed away played a big in the Civil Right’s Movement he many others that were brutally beaten because of their skin color gave those who protested against the racism something to fight for. When it comes to Black History Month Emmett Till is a big factor the story of his life and death is an insight into 1940’s in Mississippi and how an African American was treated based on the Jim-Crow laws. The NAACP had also asked Mamie Till Bradley to tour the country relating the events of her son’s life, death, and the trial of his murderers.

Racial Discrimination

What is your social issue? My social issue is racial discrimination/racism is still a problem and if so are there any solutions to racial discrimination if not why?

Why is it such a social issue?  What do people disagree about in relation to this topic? Racial discrimination is such a controversial issue for many reasons but I’ll give just one, that is racism, in general, has not gone away it may have quieted down but racism has always been here. That and for many other reasons have played a big part in why racial discrimination is such issue nowadays. Many people disagree that this such an important issue to talk about considering everything going on in today’s society.

What is your proposed solution?  Why do you think this is the best solution? When it comes to finding a solution for racial discrimination I don’t feel there is one in my opinion. But if there is one thing I’ve learned from writing about this issue is that until America admits that there is a racial problem in the U.S. we cannot move forward as a country to find a solution for this never-ending problem. Coming up with a solution won’t be easy many because many Americans stem from deep-rooted racial problems.

What are pros to your solution? The pros to my solution are their arent any.

What are cons to your solution? The cons to my solution are that there is going to be a significant amount of time before we can find a pro to it.

Do you feel as an audience that I am wrong for thinking there is no right now solution for racial discrimination?

What would your solution be for racial discrimination and if you don’t have one why do you think its so hard with attempting to come up with a solution?

2018 Superbowl Ad’s

The purpose of this ad is to entertain and persuade.

The stance of the ad is to encourage people to want to buy an Alexa while still getting that little laugh out of the ad. In this ad, it showed that Alexa has lost her voice and they use replacements for Alexa but they are messing up and getting things wrong so at the end Alexa gets her voice back. It’s basically showing that nobody can replace Alexa like other brands.

The ad audience was aimed for those who don’t own an Alexa

The purpose of the ad is to entertain and inform

The stance of the ad is to make people want to buy as well as inform them that there are new dorrito chips and mountain dew out that go great together. By having these two famous people rap iconic songs you’re getting the entertainment out of the ad so many people want to stop what they are doing to actually watch it.

The intended audience was everyone

The purpose of this ad is to entertain and persuade

The stance of this ad is to entertain both adults and children with the Jurassic park type commercial by showing the jeep wrangler being chased by the T-Rex. It is also trying to persuade adults into buying the car. By having the T-Rex chasing the car it is promoting that the car is fast and it can travel on any terrain.

The intended audience is those who can drive and want to buy a car

Play-Doh Creation

My play-doh creation was money and under the money was sand. I made that because I feel the most important thing to me besides my family is money. I made the sand to represent that I want to travel the world when I become wealthy I think everyone should experience traveling the world and getting to know different cultures. A rose was made my a classmate of mine and to me it symbols growth is going to come its just going to take some time and also it shows the beauty in change. That concept is interesting to me in many ways because I feel I can apply it to my everyday life. As I get older i’m going to grow and learn new life lesson that are going to make as beautiful as a rose. Another unique play-doh creation I loved was a cookie because I like to cook sweets whenever I can it’s a stress reliever for me and I love cooking for my family. Seeing them genuinely like my cooking is the best feeling in world to me. My thought process in making my play-doh creation was kinda hard at first. Me and my friends started bouncing ideas off of one another then we all started joking around with the play-doh. As I keep creating things with the play-doh I figured out what I wanted to represent me and what i’m about or what’s important me. Certain ideas were put into the creation process because I knew my peers would see my play-doh creation so I thought about what interest teenagers and I feel everybody wants to have a little money in their pocket and travel the world.

Pro-choice or Pro-life

Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. Many people (pro-choice) argue the decision of an abortion should be entirely up to the parent. While others (pro-life) feel abortion should be illegal.  Not only am I pro-choice but also I believe that woman should have the choose about what goes on with there body. If you take away women’s right to abort a fetus. Then you take away basic women rights of what a women can and cannot do with her own body. If the option to have an abortion were taken away from women many would put themselves at risk to find someone who would abort the fetus illegally. Statics say the State of Illinois is 64% pro-choice and 36% pro-life and the City of Chicago, IL are 72% pro-choice and 28% pro-life. While those who voted for Pro-Choice had three choices to choose from other than being completely Pro-Choice. One said that the government had no say in what a woman chooses to do with their bodies. Another said, providing sex education classes and birth control to help reduce the numbers of abortions. The last stated that you shouldn’t allow a woman to get an abortion after the third month into the pregnancy.

Finally Adopted

A Texas teenager was adopted by his former teacher right before the holidays. Anthony Berry, 16 has been in foster care since he was 9 years old, he felt at his age he would never get adopted. The whole encounter happened when Anthony asked his now mother to look on a website that will allow her to adopt him during class. Ms. Berry told him that he had to complete his work then show her the website, come to find out that their was a real website that she could go on an adopt him. Ms. Berry persuade on and adopted her new son; to gain a new family right before the holiday is amazing. In my opinion it’s heart warming and wonderful that the teacher didn’t find this as a joke and actually adopted this child and gave him maybe the best Christmas present a teenager in foster care could want a warm home and a loving family to go with it.

Do you agree that what this teacher did was a great act of kindness and selflessness to bring him into her home and give him a family?
